Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier Review: Consider This a Ghost

I mark four targets and wait for my squad to get a clear line of sight. My team gives word that they have a shot. Lining up my shot, I wait for an unaware guard to walk by. I countdown from 3, pulling the trigger and 4 bodies drop and the lone guard continues walking by me; unaware of my existence until my blade is the last thing he feels. Such is the perfect execution and the feeling that accompany’s it in Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. There may be things that Future Soldier does very well, but unfortunately there are many things it does terribly wrong.

The latest Tom Clancy product boasts yet another military adventure where you and your team are tasked with stopping a terrorist from an all-out war. This story has been told a million times and honestly, I wasn’t
even remotely interested in the “story” that was presented to me. The cut
scenes in the game made my head tilt as I tried to figure out why they
looked so very terrible. It was jarring at times as the actual gameplay provides
some very nicely presented visuals at times and then I was treated with laughable
facial animation. It baffles my mind how unpolished it was that if I were to guess, I would assume they put the story together at the end of development.

Ubisoft obviously focused the strength of this title to be
the cooperative play which was some of the most satisfying experiences in
recent memory. Timing a shot with friends put a smile on my face every time it was perfectly executed and four bodies dropped simultaneously. Planning and executing in Future Soldier were some of the best I’ve seen in a co-op environment.

I
can’t recommend this game other than the wonderful co-op. Visually it can be horrid while the writers attempt to explain their “story” but Ghost Recon excels in a cooperative space. As a single player experience the game is a failure so unless you can
locate a new copy for you and three of your friends or you want to spend $10 on
an online pass, this game should be left alone.
