The Cave Review: Old-school Adventure With Old-school mechanics

There is a certain charm that all Double Fine games or
anything else Ron Gilbert or Tim Schafer have created. The Cave is no different. The level of
humor they are able to inject into this game ranges from direct to the subtle
as the Cave itself narrates your adventure.

Puzzle solving experimentation is encouraged as each character has a special way they can complete an obstacle.

You select three of the game’s
seven characters, each with its very own unique and entertaining story that
unfolds as you traverse the different areas of the Cave and the way they unfold
is entertaining to say the least. We did have some issue with the jump
mechanics where judging height and length can be confusing at times. The
puzzles also provided a limited challenge in most areas, and the constant
backtracking can be more than annoying at times. If you’ve ever taken a moment to play any Monkey Island or the spectacular Full Throttle, be warned that the puzzles aren’t nearly as challenging but still quite entertaining.

The Cave is deigned for multiple completion as the different characters have stories that can only be accessed when they are on your team, and puzzle solving experimentation is encouraged as each character has a special way they can complete an obstacle.

At $14.99, we
would say that if you do have the money and miss the point-and-click adventure games of the 90’s, it is well worth the cost.
